The internet has changed the way people watch porn. Initially, people could only view it in magazines or certain movie stores. Now, they can easily access and hide it from their spouse with a single click of a button.
Online pornography can be a cause for concern for some couples. That’s because its raw and graphic sexual imagery can become addictive for some spouses. Unfortunately, such an addiction can cause an already turbulent marriage to fall apart at the seams.
Signs a spouse may have a porn problem
Some couples may become less sexually active as they age. However, those who are still sexually active, but their intimate connection has faltered as a result of one spouse’s porn addiction, there may be some other warning signs:
- They start judging their spouse’s looks: This can include making rude remarks about their partner’s weight or physique. They may also make their partner feel like more of a sexual object than a human being.
- They’re always online: When a spouse has a porn addiction, they may spend an excessive amount of time on the internet and continuously demand privacy. They may also have changed their bedtime routine and have developed wrist, neck or shoulder pain from spending too much time on the computer.
- They’re not as social as they used to be: If the addicted spouse was once jovial and upbeat but is now isolating themselves and displays little to no interest in spending time with friends or family, this could be problematic.
- They get defensive when asked about their addiction: At some point, the non-addicted partner will likely find out about the other one’s addiction. If the addicted partner becomes defensive or starts lying about their internet use, that could be a red flag.
Unhealthy habits can leave emotional wounds
Sometimes, acknowledging the addiction can be a wake-up call for spouses that one may no longer be happy with the other. Depending on a couple’s circumstances, it may be time for them to file for divorce. If that’s the case, they have assistance available.
